When Apollo was given the contract for an extensive programme of re-roofing nine of Enfield Homes’ blocks of social housing they relied on Redland’s expertise, working around the consultants’ initial recommendations, to provide advice and the technical specification as well as the products.

All nine blocks were completely re-roofed with the comprehensive specification provided by Redland including the dry-fix system. Not only is this technically superior to wet mortar, but also considerably lighter in weight – an important consideration when installing a new roof onto existing timbers.

Another aspect of the specification concerned the inclusion of ventilation at both eaves and ridge level. Not discernable from street level, the vents provide the only totally reliable way of eliminating condensation from cold roofs.

The roof tile products themselves were chosen as like-for-like replacements of the originals. The pictured blocks show the use of Rosemary plain tile in medium mix brindle.
