Coatings from the Glidden Trade portfolio have been used in the
creation of a new examination centre, and family and young people’s
building at John Port School in Etwall, Derbyshire.
The project, which was joint funded by the school and Derbyshire
County Council, was led by Frank Briggs, the school’s Project
Manager together with construction company, GF Tomlinson, and
professional painting and decorating contractor, Swirlforce. As a
key objective was to create a stimulating and exciting learning
environment within the available budget, Swirlforce turned to the
experts at Glidden Trade.
Jason Smith, Contracts Manager at Swirlforce, explained: “A fresh
coat of paint can be one of the easiest and most effective ways to
refresh a learning environment, and it needn’t be expensive. Using
Glidden Trade at John Port School provided a cost efficient way to
smarten up the areas being refurbished, without compromising on a
quality finish.”
When deciding which products to use, it was crucial for Swirlforce
to select a paint system appropriate to the needs of the area.
Glidden Trade Eggshell which provides great durability and coverage,
was the ideal choice as it can withstand the effects of heavy
traffic from staff and students, as well as the families using the
children’s centre. Glidden Trade Vinyl Matt, which helps minimising
surface imperfections, was used in lower traffic areas.
Jason concluded: “Glidden Trade was an ideal solution for John Port
School as it allowed us to achieve the perfect balance between
quality and value for money, resulting in a learning environment
that looks terrific.”
Nicolas Guichard, Senior Brand Manager for Glidden Trade, added:
“John Port School is a perfect example of how education
establishments can achieve great results on a limited budget. As
school building funds have been cut significantly, there are many
lessons that can be learnt from this project on how to make the most
of capital spend.”
