New products from ancient traditions with Wienerberger
Thermally efficient, responsibly sourced, high recycled content,
innovative solutions; Wienerberger has it all at this year’s
Ecobuild. The world-leading clay specialist is demonstrating a
portfolio of products with added sustainability credentials to give
customers an even greater choice of eco-friendly options.
Unveiled for the first time at Ecobuild this year, and expected to
draw huge attention from developers and specifiers alike, is the
super thermally efficient, insulated Porotherm clay block, part of
Wienerberger’s precision engineered thin joint walling system. These
innovative Porotherm blocks are filled with Perlite, a naturally
occurring mineral, and can provide a lambda value of as little as
0.07 W/mK. Already established as a strong, swift modern method of
construction, Porotherm has long been seen on the continent as an
environmentally friendly alternative for monolithic construction,
internal partition and cavity walling. Combining a saving of 95 per
cent water consumption on site, thanks to the specialist thin joint
mortar, and a recycled content of up to 30 per cent in each block,
the system is proving to be a popular eco-solution.
Also being launched at this year’s Ecobuild is the innovative
photovoltaic solar solution from Sandtoft roof tiles. The integrated
system, which can be used with virtually any type of roof tile, can
easily be installed or retrofitted by a professional roofer, thereby
reducing the number of trades on the roof and labour time. The
system is supplied ready-to-fit and, when designed and installed in
accordance with Sandtoft’s RoofSPEC, will carry a 15-year roof
design guarantee.
Wienerberger is also demonstrating brick’s rich heritage as a
natural and sustainable building material by featuring an African
project which won a special commendation at the Worldwide Brick
Awards. The project, using air-dried, mud bricks, will be viewed
alongside a showcase of Europe’s most impressive contemporary
architectural schemes, created with innovative, elegant, modern
bricks that are becoming increasingly popular with architects.
Harald Schwarzmayr, managing director of Wienerberger UK, said:
“Clay brick has been the building material of choice for thousands
of years. Its unrivalled popularity comes down to the unique
combination of natural raw material, performance durability, and a
longevity which gives products enormous sustainability credentials.
At Wienerberger we bring together this heritage with progressive
production methods and the demands of modern day construction to
create systems and solutions that build on the inherent value of
this truly sustainable and adaptable material. The innovative
products we have on display at Ecobuild demonstrate the coming
together of this traditional material with the 21st century
requirements of the building materials industry.”
Eco-friendly products from the entire Wienerberger portfolio will
make up the display, demonstrating to architects and specifiers the
green alternative for every aspect of the build process - from the
Aquata SUDS pavers and the high recycled content and responsibly
sourced clay facing bricks, to Sandtoft’s photovoltaic integrated
roofing system.
Wienerberger is the world’s biggest brick manufacturer, Europe’s
second largest manufacturer of clay roof tiles and a market-leader
in clay pavers. Attendance at Ecobuild is free, for more information
