JS Humidifiers will be showcasing its low energy evaporative coolers and humidifiers at the Data Centre World exhibition on stand F45 at the London Olympia, 2-3 March 2011.

The HumEvap MC3 evaporative humidifier and JetSpray air and water spray humidifier can offer up to 12°C of adiabatic cooling to a data centre from a fraction of the energy required to run mechanical cooling.

Many modern data centres incorporate free air cooling systems, which use the ambient outside air to cool the data halls rather than running expensive mechanical chillers. In a typical UK climate this technique is effective for around 70% of the year, with mechanical cooling being used thereafter. By adding an evaporative cooling system, usage of free air cooling can be extended up to 95% of the year, keeping operating costs to a minimum.

Evaporative or spray humidifiers can be used on both the incoming and exhaust air to provide cooling. By humidifying the fresh air with an evaporative humidifier delivering 100kg of water per hour, 69kW of direct air cooling can be achieved from just 0.49kW of electricity.

By increasing the humidity of the exhaust air to saturation point, its temperature can be considerably reduced. This cool air can then be used to reduce the temperature of the incoming fresh air with the use of a heat exchanger. Prior to its release, cool thermal energy is transferred from the exhaust air into the incoming air.
