A move to larger premises prompted Gordons Fine Foods to order
Fulton boilers based on past experience and the energy saving
ModSync option for future energy savings.
Gordons Fine Foods is a leading Hampshire-based manufacturer of
premium condiments including mustards, creamed English horseradish
and many others. The company uses the finest ingredients to provide
a comprehensive range of both traditional and contemporary Gordons
branded condiments to the UK's grocery retailers and major
supermarkets; and also offers a range of quality ingredients in high
and low volumes, that are used by food manufacturers in the
production of sandwiches, ready meals, glazes, etc.
For more than ten years Gordons had relied on a Fulton boiler to
provide steam and hot water for its manufacturing and CIP processes,
so when expansion required a move to larger premises, two Fulton 60J
gas fired boilers were the obvious choice for the company’s
relocation to its new 30,000 sq ft site in Eastleigh.
Steam provided by the boilers is used to heat the vessels that cook
the condiment ingredients and is passed over filled jars to preserve
the content. It is also used to heat water in a pasteuriser, which
kills the head space in the jars and, as it cools, creates the
vacuum required as the tamper-proof lids are fitted. In addition,
steam provides hot water for vital sterile cleaning processes and is
used for space heating throughout the new site.
The two new 60J boilers are equipped with Fulton’s latest ModSync
technology, a new sequencing system designed to maximise the
efficiency of multiple boiler installations by providing precise
pressure control of the steam system using a pressure transducer
installed in the steam header. ModSync is capable of precise
temperature control and provides lead/lag sequencing on hot water
boiler systems through an easy-to-use touch screen interface, which
also provides remote monitoring and text messaging capabilities for
quick access to boiler room status.
Commenting on the specification of Fulton boilers, managing director
Keith Johnson says the reliability and performance of the previous
boiler was a key factor, and the availability of the energy-saving
ModSync system was an attractive option, which promises to
significantly reduce energy costs and the company’s carbon
footprint.
