BDR Thermea, formerly Baxi Group, has reported a “very successful”
Ecobuild 2011. Social housing and new build specifiers made a
bee-line to the company’s stand at the ExCeL London show, attracted
by the broad range of low carbon heating and hot water solutions on
display. Working models of the Baxi Bioflo for biomass projects and
the award-winning Baxi Ecogen, the only commercially available
micro-CHP unit purpose-designed for the home proved major highlights
at the show alongside the company’s recently launched Multifit
GasSaver and Multifit HeatSaver products.
“Yet again, Ecobuild has provided us with a very productive platform
for business” says BDR Thermea’s Specification Channel Manager,
Simon Osborne. “Over the three days of the show, we were able to
meet with a high proportion of new and existing specification
customers in social housing and new-build as well as a growing
number of self-builders and consumers. We took the opportunity to
demonstrate the vast range of low carbon technologies now available
under the BDR Thermea banner. Using BDR Thermea Know How, we were
also able to explain how these products and systems can work on
their own and in combination to secure benefits under SAP and help
meet Levels 3 and 4 of the Code for Sustainable Homes (CfSH)”.
Baxi Bioflo helps developers meet CfSH Level 4 and comply with the
requirements of the Renewable Heat Incentive (RHI) scheme. This
innovative free-standing, pellet fed boiler can be installed in
living areas, making boiler specification and installation much
simpler on new-build and retrofit housing projects than is possible
with traditional biomass solutions. Baxi Bioflo is especially suited
to social housing developments in rural, off mains gas areas where
it can help alleviate fuel poverty issues.
Complying fully with the new requirements of Part L1 of the Building
Regulations (2010, the revolutionary Baxi Ecogen is a dual energy
system which can be specified to meet Level 4 in the CfSH and take
advantage of Government funding initiatives, such as, Feed-in
Tariffs (FiT). Baxi Ecogen installation can save up to £600 in fuel
bills for a typical 4 bed semi detached home and achieve carbon
reductions totalling 3.3 tonnes 2% when replacing a SEDBUK (2005)
Band G boiler.
Live appliances including a Baxi Bioflo, a Heatrae Sadia Megaflo eco
cylinder, and a Baxi Ecogen featured prominently as part of the BDR
Thermea offering. These eye-catching products drew the crowds in all
three days, providing an insight into the smooth-running, ease of
operation and low noise performance benefits of the technologies.
Designed for use with Baxi and Potterton HE combi boilers, the
Multifit GasSaver is a passive flue gas recovery system which
reduces energy usage by up to 37% and water consumption by up to 7%.
Specifiers at the show could see how this technology was able to
recover heat from flue gases that would otherwise be wasted, using
it to pre-heat water coming into the boiler from the cold mains
supply. The Mutlifit HeatSaver package, also on show at Ecobuild,
optimises heating and reducing gas consumption still further by
adding a 50 litre temporal store to the Multifit GasSaver system.
Other low carbon solutions on display under the BDR Thermea umbrella
comprised technologies from Baxi, Potterton, Heatrae Sadia, Valor,
Andrews Water Heaters, Santon, Elson, Baxi Sener-tec and Potterton
Commercial. These included Baxi Ambiflo™ air source heat pumps
linked to the new Megaflo Eco HP, which has been designed to
optimise heat input from any ASHP, and Baxi Geoflo™ ground source
heat pumps; Baxi Solarflo™ thermal water heating systems; Heatrae
Sadia hot water storage cylinders, water heaters and Electromax
solar thermal electric water heaters; and Potterton Commercial
Sirrus SAT Heat Box units for district heating system applications.
The BDR Thermea Know How initiative also proved popular at Ecobuild.
BDR Thermea Know How is the platform which allows the company to
communicate its unrivalled knowledge of the legislative framework in
specification and its expertise in helping developers assess the
impact of their system solution in meeting these requirements.
Specifiers were able to engage with Know How through face to face
conversations with BDR Thermea experts at Ecobuild.
