Danfoss has invested large resources in the high power drives
business over recent years:
• A modular technology platform allowing highly customised quality
drives to be mass produced and tested at the factory.
• Power range up to 1.4 MW – and new power range extensions in the
pipeline.
• Innovative power component design with 98 % efficiency
• World class manufacturing facilities. The high power plant and
competence centre in Rockford, Illinois, USA was rebuilt and doubled
in size to 11,400 m2 in 2009/2010.
However, high power customers expect more than just the physical
product. Our sales people must understand the customer needs in
order to offer the best solution:
What is the purpose of the machinery? What type of motor? What are
the installation conditions? What is the power supply network? Are
there any issues with harmonic distortion? All this requires
in-depth application knowledge and solid engineering skills.
The people behind the product are just as important as the product.
This applies to the Danfoss sales companies as well as our network
of sales and service partners. We conduct regular training
programmes for our own staff and partners to maintain a solid
expertise – backed by the experts in the factories in Denmark and
USA.
2010 was by far the most successful year for high power drives in
the history of Danfoss.
In Northern Europe the sales of high power drives and harmonic
mitigation solutions increased by 30% in 2010. Typical applications
include: Water and waste water, district heating and power plants,
refrigeration systems, industrial processing machinery and marine
systems.
Most of the growth was seen in areas where the high power drives
have contributed to large reductions in energy consumption and CO2
emissions – highlighting Danfoss’ position as the Climate & Energy
Company.
