Through its partnership with EDF Energy, Daikin was given the
opportunity to explain the energy and carbon saving potential of its
Daikin Altherma heat pumps to HRH the Prince of Wales, when he
visited the Princes Foundation House at the Ideal Home Show at
Earl’s Court on 17th March. The house for which EDF was one of the
sponsors, showcased a wide range eco-friendly features including a
low carbon heating system.
EDF Energy and Daikin UK joined forces to provide “The Prince’s
House” exhibit at the show with an energy efficient Daikin Altherma
monobloc heat pump and explained the principles behind the
technology to the Prince when he toured the house at the
internationally famous show.
The two companies were amongst those involved in providing
technology to 'The Prince's House', Prince Charles’ example of a low
carbon home made from natural and recycled materials which his
Foundation for the Built Environment claims is just as low carbon as
some of its high tech alternatives.
The house is built on eco friendly principles and is made from
natural materials like wool, hemp, wood and lime so it's non-toxic
and kinder to the environment. The shell of the house is built using
the FutureForm Building System and is designed to reduce waste
during construction and to provide substantial energy savings in
use.
Iain Bevan, National Sales Manager, Heating and Renewables for
Daikin UK said: “Daikin UK has been working closely with EDF Energy
to promote renewable energy heating and hot water systems and
through our relationship with them we were proud to be involved in
such a prestigious project. It is exciting to see an organisation
such as the Prince's Foundation recognising the part technologies
like ours can play in delivering practical, stylish and sustainable
homes.”
Chief Executive of the Prince's Foundation, Hank Dittmar said: "The
Prince's Foundation thinks that saving energy is an important part
of doing your bit for the planet; a great way to do this is to heat
your home and hot water by an air-to-water heat pump, a lower carbon
alternative to a traditional heating system. An example of this can
be seen in The Prince's House."
The Daikin Altherma monobloc air-to-water heat pump is a
Microgeneration Scheme Accredited domestic heating and hot water
system that makes a significant contribution to the house’s energy
saving potential. By providing energy efficient and low carbon heat
for homes, this “plug and go” solution, is ideal for properties
where space is at a premium.
Compact in size, it is easy to install and contains all the main
hydraulic components included within the one outdoor unit. A compact
control box is also installed indoors, as well as a back up heater
that will activate under extreme weather conditions.
Available in both heating only and heating/cooling versions, the
system can be used in combination with underfloor heating, low
temperature radiators or Daikin heat pump convector units. At the
heart of the outdoor unit is Daikin inverter-driven compressor,
which reduces start/stop cycles, eliminates the need for a buffer
tank, has a low starting current and offers high full and partial
load performances.
