DAIKIN UK - Statement On The Impact Of The Japanese Earthquake &
Tsunami Upon Daikin Industries Ltd
We express our deepest sympathy to all people in the earthquake and
tsunami disaster area of Japan and to our colleagues who have family
or friends there. We would also like to reassure our customers that
all employees are safe and the impact on our company in Japan is
limited. Almost all Daikin bases in Japan are located in Western
Japan and not in Eastern Japan near the earthquake epicentre.
On March 12, Daikin Industries Ltd set up a ‘disaster countermeasure
office’, headed by CEO Noriyuki Inoue, to follow-up all information
on the disaster and implement support measures for employees,
families, affiliated companies, clients and business activities.
Due to a cut in electric transmission, one of the chemical factories
(Kashima factory) near the earthquake centre has been shut down,
however other factories (Yodogawa, Kanaoka, Rinaki and Shiga) in
Japan are operating as usual and have not been damaged. The Daikin
Tohoku sales office was also shut down due to damage of the
building, however sales operations continue from the Yamagata sales
office, which is safe.
On this occasion of unprecedented devastation, the Daikin Group is
working to support relief efforts within the disaster areas, with
priority being placed on the preservation of life, safety and
wellbeing. To assist those affected by the earthquake, the Daikin
Group is donating 100 million yen in monetary aid and approximately
200 million yen in material (600 commercial use air purifiers and
500 far-infrared electric heaters) amounting to a total contribution
of more than 300 million yen, the equivalent of £2,316,000.
Relief aid is being donated through the not-for-profit organization
Japan Platform (JPF) for use in the affected areas as deemed
necessary. Daikin UK staff fundraising efforts have also so far
contributed £1200 to the British Red Cross – Japan Tsunami Appeal.
Currently, we are not aware of any supply issues caused by the
damage, but obviously the full repercussions of the disaster are
still being assessed. However, we will update our customers as soon
as possible, if we foresee any potential issues.
