BDR THERMEA Wins Prestigious Industry Award
BDR Thermea (formerly Baxi Group), the leading manufacturer and distributor of
innovative heating and hot water systems and services, has been crowned winner
in the hotly-contested Partnering Initiative of the Year category at this year’s
prestigious H&V News Awards (Grosvenor House Hotel, Tuesday 19 April). The
company picked up the prize for its ground-breaking partnership with Efficiency
East Midlands (EEM), a consortium of social housing organisations which has
delivered value for money, social and sustainability benefits.
“We are delighted and extremely proud to receive the Partnering Initiative of
the Year Award”, says David Barrett, Commercial Director for BDR Thermea. ”This
is a tremendous achievement for everybody involved at Efficiency East Midlands
and BDR Thermea. It is proof of our commitment to innovation in partnership,
products and service. Together we have provided excellent low energy heating and
hot water solutions for homes at a reduced cost while adding considerable value
to our customer relationship”.
Efficiency East Midlands (EEM) was launched in July 2010 by a consortium of five
housing organisations to deliver efficiencies for capital, decent homes and
responsive works supporting the Government’s initiative to drive down
expenditure through collaboration. Nottingham City Homes (NCH) is the
Accountable Body for EEM and is leading the initiative. According to Pete Smith,
Head of Procurement at NCH, the group was established “to drive efficiency
savings in both back office and project delivery”. In the nine months since its
launch, EEM has expanded to 16 members from the East Midlands Area who maintain
136,000 homes.
Pete Smith comments, “I was delighted to be present at the Awards ceremony to
collect the Award with David Barratt. It was a very proud moment for me
personally and the EEM consortium as this is the first award we have won -
hopefully not the last!” Pete continues, “Winning this Award is a massive
achievement for EEM, as it is a reflection of the hard work the consortium is
doing. EEM has some really exciting plans coming up that will ensure
sustainability of the consortia in the future which in turn will support its
members.”
As the preferred boiler manufacturer, BDR Thermea is providing a minimum of
11,200 boilers to the consortium to help create warmer, more energy efficient
homes. These include Baxi Duo-tec Combi 28 HE boilers, Baxi Solo 18 HE heat only
boilers and Baxi Megaflo System HE boilers
And, because the boilers have been obtained from a single manufacturer, they
share many common components, which minimises the number of spares needed. For
every million pounds spent under the framework, BDR Thermea has committed to
employ one apprentice from the Nottingham area.
The judges praised the partnership for its “demonstration of co-operation, open
communication and commitment to maximising efficiency through the supply chain”.
The H&V News Awards, now in their 17th year, are judged by a panel of
distinguished industry figures and recognise excellence and innovation across
the heating, ventilating and air conditioning sector. The 19 winners, the cream
of the building services industry, were announced at the awards ceremony, hosted
by Alexander Armstrong, the star of BBC’s Armstrong and Miller comedy show
before a audience of more than 1000 guests.
