FORTICRETE Provides The Perfect Finish For Mid Cheshire College
Three different finishes of high performance masonry from Forticrete, the UK’s
leading manufacturer of architectural masonry products, have been specified for
a new Learning Zone at Mid Cheshire College in Winsford, Cheshire. The New
Learning Zone, which was previously the site of a gas works, provides a new
landmark building at the entrance to the town. The new 3 storey building is able
to accommodate over 300 students and full and part-time staff.
As architects for the project, Ellis Williams Architects specified the
Forticrete Diamond White masonry in a Polished, Splitfaced and Textured finish,
with the aim of creating a modern, crisp looking building which reflected the
Learning Zone’s contemporary development aspirations.
Forticrete Diamond White Polished Medici was used on the front of the building
and wraps round to one side of the learning facility, before changing to a
Textured masonry down the side. The rear of the building is then finished with a
combination of Diamond White Textured and Splitface architectural masonry. The
Splitface masonry then continues along the full length of the opposite side of
the building, wrapping around to the front entrance of the learning facility and
adjoining the Polished Medici.
Simon Ford, Director at Ellis Williams Architects commented: “We wanted the
building to act as a landmark for Winsford and as a catalyst for regeneration
within the town, therefore everyone involved in the project, from the design
team and client, through to the local planning authority, agreed that a high
quality finish was essential. Therefore, it was extremely important to ensure
that when sourcing materials for the job, we got it spot on.
“Forticrete provided us with the solution that we were looking for and we are
extremely pleased with the finished result – it is to the highest of quality. We
also found working with Forticrete to be a very professional process from start
to finish.”
Offering a wide selection of decorative concrete facing blocks, Forticrete's
Architectural Masonry range is an aesthetically effective alternative to the
internal or the external leaf of a cavity construction, which creates clean,
maintenance free surfaces with either bold uniformity or a variety of colour and
bond patterns to brighten even the most functional of environments.
