PRATER - Sun Shines On Prater Solar Launch
The UK’s leading building envelope contractor, Prater, has launched a new Solar
division that specialises in ‘energising’ building envelopes to maximise
sustainability credentials, as well as take advantage of the Government’s latest
energy feed-in-tariff schemes.
“Clients can now incorporate photovoltaic panels into new and existing buildings
backed by over 60 years’ experience of constructing building envelopes,” states
Prater Solar‘s PV specialist Stuart Whiting. “Our new offering will help
projects meet planning requirements and improve their BREEAM rating, while main
contractors can be totally assured of the quality of construction.”
Offering a single point of contact for complete envelope and PV solutions,
Prater Solar offers new-build and retrofit solar PV clients a turnkey service
including engineering, procurement, construction and operation.
The company uses Building Integrated Photovoltaics (BIPV) and Building Applied
Photovoltaics (BAPV) based solutions to deliver environmental benefits and a
25-year RPI-linked income. These products can be incorporated into metal and
flat roofs, wall cladding, plant screens and even curtain wall glazing.
Meticulous design and installation of these solutions is essential to maintain a
building’s external envelope and structural integrity, so Prater Solar will
ensure that the PV system is designed specifically for the application, with
particular focus on safety and high quality lifetime performance of both the
building and the system.
“Our expertise helps us ensure that we deliver an income generating PV system
which operates throughout a building’s design life, yet meets all structural and
electrical requirements,” continues Stuart. “Compromising weather tightness or
creating wind loading hazards must be avoided. In the rush to improve
sustainability, ask yourself, what does your PV installer know about building
construction?”
Extending Prater’s single source contact for envelopes to provide fully
warranted PV panel installations is a logical step for the company, which has
developed a first rate reputation for delivering high quality and cost effective
design and installation services for complete building envelopes.
The company’s credentials have been proven on flagship projects such as the
Emirates Stadium and Heathrow T4 as well as extensive hospital, school and other
contracts for main contractors such as Laing O’Rourke, Skanska, Carillion and
Sir Robert McAlpine.
Stuart adds: “With pedigree and reputation comes expectation, so when Prater
diversifies into a new specialism, it does so with the financial standing,
commitment and resources that will raise the bar in ‘energised’ building
envelopes. The launch of Prater Solar therefore signifies a new stage in the
BIPV and BAPV installation industry.”
