CONEX - New Standard For Copper & Brass Fittings Offers
Reassurance For Installers
For the first time ever, a new standard for copper and copper alloy plumbing
fittings has been published. Leading copper and brass fittings manufacturer,
Conex, is urging installers to look for product which has been tested for
compliance against the new standard to ensure quality and reliability in water
and gas applications.
The new standard BS 8537 (Copper and copper alloys -- Plumbing fittings --
Specification for press ends of plumbing fittings for use with metallic tubes)
was published in December 2010 and represents the first official national
standard of its kind: previously, manufacturers worked to their own individual
standards. Conex has tested its <B> Press range of fittings to the new BS 8537
after playing a significant role in developing the standard through its various
committee stages.
The new standard, which covers copper and brass fittings for water (potable and
heating and cooling) and gas (natural and LPG) applications contains strong
requirements for testing to ensure that installers can be certain that compliant
fittings will be suitable for their application and have a safe and long working
life.
Conex >B< Press fittings are the ultimate in speedy, reliable fitting of copper
pipes without the need for solder, adhesives or any other jointing material –
the perfect flame-free system. A special Conex 3-point press fitting system
gives a long-lasting, leak-free, secure joint in moments using a special press
tool, trimming labour costs and reducing time on site.
Conex >B< Press can be used very effectively in a wide variety of applications –
hot and cold water, gas, and solar – and is available in a variety of sizes from
15-108mm. Unlike other crimp fitting systems on the market, Conex >B< Press
benefits from a 3-point press - two presses either side of the bead and one
press crimping the o-ring. This provides a more secure joint than the 2-point
press offered by alternative systems. Using a special Conex mechanical press
tool the joint is permanently made and the fitting cannot be dismounted or
re-used.
Conex >B< Press also offers installers a fail safe function to check their
system for leaks using a unique pressing indicator. The specially designed EPDM
o-ring has a reduced section at two points. This causes leaks at low pressures
(from 0.1 to 5.0 bar) when the fitting has not been pressed. When the fitting is
crimped, the o-ring material compresses, filling the gaps and securing a
leak-free joint. This allows installers to check the system at low pressure to
ensure that all the fittings have been pressed and correctly fitted.
Different coloured o-rings designate Conex >B< Press fittings for different
functions - black for hot and cold water, green for solar and yellow for natural
gas and LPG applications. Mention here about Conex >B< Press Inox - a stainless
steel version for drinking water There is a full range of fittings available in
each size including couplers, elbows, tees and accessories.
