EATON’S Newly Enhanced Intelligent Power Management Software
Increases Virtual Server Uptime Within Microsoft’s SCVMM & Live
Migration
Diversified industrial manufacturer Eaton Corporation has launched a new version
of its Intelligent Power® Manager software that is fully compatible with
Microsoft’s System Centre Virtual Machine Manager (SCVMM™), including the Live
Migration virtualisation solution. Intelligent Power Manager’s remote monitoring
capabilities reduce data centre infrastructure and operating costs while
simplifying management, minimising response time and substantially increasing
uptime.
Eaton’s comprehensive power management software monitors and manages all the
power devices on a network and conducts a graceful shutdown of virtual machines
and servers during an extended power outage. With Eaton’s new version of its
Intelligent Power Manager software, Live Migration users now have better
management and control of power devices supporting virtual machines. Upon a
prolonged power interruption, the new software is designed to trigger Live
Migration to transparently move virtual machines from the affected server to a
non-affected server, providing continual uptime and data integrity.
“The centralised management of the physical and virtual IT infrastructure and
increased server utilisation require data centre managers to have a holistic
view of their IT operations,” said Hervé Tardy, senior vice president and
general manager, Eaton’s Distributed Power Quality Division. “Our enhanced
Intelligent Power Manager software gives users the ability to comprehensively
and remotely manage and monitor their power devices and virtual infrastructure
seamlessly within Microsoft’s SCVMM and Live Migration.”
Through the software’s colour-coded displays and customised tree structure
views, administrators can activate important functions such as graceful shutdown
of servers experiencing a power outage, automatic reboot and scheduling of
multiple power devices across the network. In addition, Intelligent Power
Manager can:
• Monitor and manage multiple uninterruptible power systems (UPSs), Eaton ePDU®
products, as well as environmental sensors across the network from a single
interface
• Instantly access critical information, such as UPS battery condition, load
levels and
battery runtime
• Conduct auto discoveries that provide fast installation by automatically
detecting
devices on the network
• Perform mass-upgrades of firmware that reduces network management card setup
and maintenance time
• Quickly track equipment moves, adds and changes
