PASSIVENT - Passively Maintaining Fresh, Quiet Living In The
City
A ‘landmark’ waterside newbuild residential development only minutes from Canary
Wharf is proving a hit with potential buyers, with 60% sold within two months of
going on the market and almost a year before any ready for occupation!
Due for occupation in summer 2011, Aqua Vista, in Bowcommon Lane, London by
developer Higgins Homes, will offer studio starter homes through to
three-bedroom apartments, ranging from £169950 to £330000. Higgins Homes reports
60% of the apartments were sold off plan within eight weeks of going on the
market; part of the reason for the success of the development is the feeling of
light and space coupled with quiet- achieved in part through strategic use of
acoustic background ventilators from Passivent Ltd.
Each of the 157 apartments features two of Passivent’s Acoustic Energy Saver
Vents with Canopy Grilles, colour matched to RAL7037 matt, and integrated into
the double glazed window units supplied by Travis Perkins for subcontractor LSC
Facades. Humidity sensitive, the vents automatically open and close depending on
water vapour levels within, removing excess moisture generated by cooking,
washing etc, and ensuring an adequate supply of fresh air in line with latest
Building Regulations without unnecessary heat loss, and reducing external noise
penetration from the road outside into the homes to just 34dB.
A spokesman for LSC Facades explained, “Higgins Homes made the decision to use
Passivent Energy Saver vents as it was felt the vents made living in Aqua Vista
as easy as possible, and were discreet, helping enhance the overall ambience of
uncluttered space. It was very important that the vent was not bulky and
intrusive, and that it could deliver the noise attenuation demanded. Passivent’s
units have the added advantage of requiring no input from the apartment
occupiers.”
The Energy Saver Vent is available in both standard and acoustic versions, and
is just part of Passivent’s comprehensive window and through-wall range of
background ventilation solutions. The background ventilators are complemented by
the company’s ‘whole home’ natural, assisted and mechanical ventilation
strategies, including the innovative iHybrid which combines natural ventilation
with heat recovery to deliver savings of 55% in electrical energy and 39% in
lifetime costs over other mechanical ventilators.
