LAFARGE - Bunnines Bring Easter Cheer To Concrete Plant
EASTER bunnies with a difference are multiplying at a concrete plant in Norfolk.
Workers at the Lafarge Costessey Readymix site in Norwich are finding cute
coney’s at every turn.
But these are not the flop-eared, furry hoppers of field and forest, these
particular cottontails are made of stronger stuff – concrete to be exact.
And they are causing quite a stir both among the site staff and local
schoolchildren.
Barry Hewitt, Lafarge Aggregates & Concrete UK sector supervisor, said:
“It all started as a bit of a joke really.
“When we produce a batch of our special free-flowing flooring concrete - Agilia
Gyvlon Screed A – we always do a sample first for testing.
“One day one of our drivers brought in a rabbit jelly mould so he could use the
leftover concrete to make a bunny for his daughter.
“It was a silly idea but it has really taken off, we’ve got bunnies all over the
place now.”
To help thin the population Barry suggested donating a few of the figures to a
local school.
Plant supervisor, Ricky Mapes whose children, Caitlin, 10 and Aden, eight, had
spruced up some of the rabbits with a lick of paint, came up trumps with an
arrangement to hand over 27 of the rabbits to their school, Henry Preston
Primary.
He said:
“My two loved painting the rabbits so I contacted their headteacher to see if
she might be interested in taking some for the pupils to use in art.
“She was happy to and the children have been involved in a painting competition
to find the best designs to paint on the bunnies.
“When they get back into the classroom after Easter they will be painting the
rabbits and putting some in the school's nature garden – I guess it’s a bit more
of a fitting home than a concrete plant.”
