MK ELECTRIC Upgrades Market-Leading App

MK Electric – the UK’s leading manufacturer of wiring devices and accessories – has enhanced its market-leading app for the iPhone, iTouch and iPad. The app puts the latest digital technology at the service of the specifier, providing full specification information without the need for either a lap-top or encyclopedia-sized catalogue.

MK Electric App version 1.1.0 is already proving popular, with nearly 3,000 of the existing 8,000 users having already downloaded the update which adds the Ackermann Specification Guide, a comprehensive range of power and data distribution systems, to the MK Specification Guide. These users now have full details on Ackermann products such as: the new Cablelink Plus range – power & data distribution for solid and suspended floors; the new Onix Plus for screed floors – stylish, load bearing and robust with IP44 water protection rating; the Interact Underfloor and Overhead power distribution system – designed for rapid installation; and Hangmann pendant system – for power, data and compressed air.

The latest version of the app also enables users to tailor it to their needs as it has a Push Notifications function to allow real-time alerts for news, updates and promotions and it can also provide multitasking support. The app demonstrates MK Electric’s commitment to making the latest technologies and methods of communication work for its customers and clients through constant improvement. The development of the app is part of Honeywell ED&S’ policy of moving to digital formats and shows that these formats are faster to update and more accessible to customers. These formats are also more sustainable as they do not require paper, ink or logistics.

As with other iPhone apps, the MK App has full touch-screen functionality so that users can enlarge pages up to 200% with a tap, ‘pinch’ the image to zoom to any desired level from 1%-200% and ‘flip’ from page to page by wiping a finger across the screen. Users can also view pages in either portrait or landscape format, depending on how the device is held.

Navigating the ‘book’ is simple, as instructions at the beginning make clear: users can go to any page directly by entering a page number on the alphanumeric keypad, touching a thumbnail of the required page or entering a search term. Users can share this App with others in three ways – emailing it or posting it onto either a Twitter or Facebook page.

The MK Electric App also enables users to locate their nearest electrical wholesaler. Selecting the ‘Find Store’ button produces a list of branches, nearest to furthest from the user’s current location, using the phone’s GPS. The App is easily downloaded via the iTunes App store and is free. Updates are automatically notified to users who can then accept the upgrade and download it via the App store.
