CEMBRIT Brings Sustainable Slate To Greenbuild Expo!
Cembrit, the natural slate specialist, will be demonstrating the environmental
benefits of natural slate at Greenbuild Expo in June. Visitors to Stand A5 will
be able to see two of Cembrit’s renowned natural slate products, Glendyne and
Alpina, and explore how they might contribute to all types of sustainable
building project.
“Natural slate requires low energy input for processing in comparison with other
alternatives,” says Ged Ferris, Marketing Manager at Cembrit. “Not only is it
popular on new building projects it is also has an extended life as a reclaimed
product giving it decades longer working life than alternatives. We are using
the show to demonstrate the economic and visual advantages of this traditional
natural roofing material.”
Glendyne is a high quality slate quarried from the Canadian town of Saint Marc
du Lac Long, Quebec, Canada. A dark blue/grey, with a fine, consistent grain and
smooth texture, it benefits from a combination of modern extraction technology
and traditional finishing skills to ensure a consistently high standard product.
Alpina is a Brazilian natural slate, selected from the finest deposits and
produced at some of the best facilities in Papagaios, Brazil. It is available in
two colours, graphite and grey/green and in a variety of sizes. With its flat
surface and pleasing shade variations, Alpina slate can be relied upon to create
an attractive, high performance roof. Alpina slates have virtually no unstable
minerals such as pyrites, graphite, carbon and un-oxidised irons. Both of these
slates can withstand the most severe weather conditions: they are unaffected by
sunlight, ultraviolet light and even acid rain.
Using skills built up over 80 years, Cembrit offers a wide range of cladding
panels, corrugated sheet and natural and man-made roofing slate. Quality levels
at group factories are rigorously maintained to high standards with many
products manufactured under the control of ISO 9001 and British Board of
Agrément. Cembrit UK is a member of Cembrit Holding A/S (formerly the Dansk
Eternit Holding A/S) of Denmark, one of Europe’s major building material
producers of fibre reinforced cement products for the roofing and cladding
industry. The ultimate parent company FL Smith this year celebrates its 125 year
anniversary.
