JOHN BRASH Shingles Turn The Tide

Western Red Cedar Shingles from John Brash have been specified for a stunning new build home in a Conservation Area on the West Sussex coast.

The property, called Tidewaters, is in the village of Bosham which is within a Conservation Area and falls within the Chichester Harbour Outstanding Area of Natural Beauty.

The seafront home has five bedrooms, five bathrooms, three balconies, and its own boathouse, which has been roofed with the John Brash Western Red Cedar Shingles. Twenty-five solar-powered roof windows have been fitted into the roofs, in addition to solar panels.

Owner Mitch Dall worked closely with his architect Ben Smith of BIS Design in Chichester to design his dream home. He says: “Timber is such a natural, sustainable material and I particularly like the fact it weathers over the years, which will add real character to our home.”

He added, “Another advantage of using the Western Red Cedar Shingles is the way the new house blends easily with historic properties in the village, and I believe that specifying this material helped us to achieve planning permission.”

The John Brash Western Red Cedar Shingles were specified by main contractor Nicholas Coppin Ltd of Arundel and fitted by Kingsley Roofing of Worthing. Managing Director Nick Coppin says: “We frequently specify John Brash Western Red Cedar Shingles because they are excellent quality, extremely easy to work with and renowned for their longevity and durability.”

The John Brash Western Red Shingles used on this project are the Blue Label grade which ensures that all shingles and shakes are made from cedar that is 100% heartwood, 100% edge grain and 100% clear.

Western Red Cedar shingles from John Brash are extremely durable, having a minimum 40-year service life, resistance to decay and a high strength to weight ratio that provides flexibility in design.

John Brash Western Red Cedar Shingles are offered with fire retardant treatment to Class O, which meets the most stringent requirements of BS 476 Parts 6 & 7.

The company has been manufacturing quality timber products for over 100 years. It is BS EN ISO 9001:2008 accredited and only sources Western Red Cedar Shingles from sustainable and well managed forests that are PEFC certified (Programme for the Endorsement of Forest Certification).
