LAFARGE - Cricket Club Bowled Over By Lafarge Sponsorship
 YOUNG cricket players in a Staffordshire village will receive extra coaching and
new equipment thanks to a new two-year sponsorship link-up with construction
materials firm Lafarge.
The company has stepped in as the main sponsor of Alrewas Cricket Club for the
next two seasons after a previous sponsorship deal came to an end.
The main priority will be to develop the junior section of the club, improving
equipment and coaching facilities.
Ian Adcock, site manager for Lafarge Aggregates & Concrete UK’s nearby Alrewas
sand and gravel quarry, said:
“Lafarge strives to be a good neighbour and to support the local communities
around its sites so when we were approached by the cricket club in their hour of
need we were happy to assist.
“It’s great to be able to help local youngsters improve their cricketing skills
and to ensure the continued success of a club which does so much to bring the
community together.”
The club runs three senior teams, a number of junior teams for children over 10
and a beginners section for under 10s called The Herons.
It also organises the Orme Cup, a popular and long-established annual community
cricket contest which attracts teams from pubs and clubs in the parish and an
annual ladies 6-a-side competition, both of which raise money for local
charities.
Tim Aston, who has been involved with the club for more than 30 years, said:
“We are grateful to Lafarge for their generous sponsorship which is a real boost
to the club and will benefit everyone but particularly the young players.
“It is relatively expensive to run a cricket club, with fees and maintenance
costs so external sponsorship is vital to enable us to develop the club and move
forward.
“We were delighted when Lafarge stepped in to provide sponsorship for two
seasons after support from our previous backer ended.”
