LEVOLUX Looks Up At Walbrook

The Walbrook Building in central London is an ultra-modern office building, which appears impressive, even when viewed from above, thanks to a Roof Screening solution from Levolux.

Designed by world-leading architects at Foster + Partners, the Walbrook Building occupies one of the largest sites in the central City area, providing almost 40,000 sq ft (4,000 m2) of retail space and more than 380,000 sq ft (35,000 m2) of office space, arranged over 10 floors.

Located in a historic part of London, the Walbrook Building, completed in 2010, is a landmark development which overlooks St Paul’s Cathedral to the west. The building’s attractive, ultra-modern aesthetic continues up at roof level, with a custom Levolux Roof Screening solution, featuring aerofoil-shaped Screening Louvres.

Levolux is renowned for its expertise in designing, engineering and installing Roof Screening solutions and is proud to have been chosen to work on some of the capital’s most iconic high-rise buildings.

The Roof Screening solution developed for the Walbrook Building comprises 64 horizontal panels. Each panel is fitted with 200mm wide extruded aluminium, aerofoil-shaped Louvres fixed at 90 degrees, set at 500mm centres, with spans ranging from 2 to 6 metres.

The Louvred panels are contained within a 200mm x 20mm box-section aluminium frame, which has been skilfully engineered to follow the curved outer edge of the building, while accommodating two large, oval-shaped skylights.

The Roof Screening Louvres not only create an uncompromised, attractive aesthetic at roof level, but also effectively screen-off the building’s unsightly plant and equipment, reducing the visual impact to tenants in surrounding buildings.

With its two concealed access hatches, the Roof Screening solution is designed to allow easy access to plant room areas, facilitating ongoing maintenance and replacement of equipment.

The completed Roof Screening solution is engineered to last, is virtually maintenance free and like all Levolux Solar Shading systems, is backed by the company’s design, manufacture and installation package, along with a three year warranty.

All aluminium components are finished in a tough dark grey powder coating, which complements the overall scheme.

The Walbrook Building has become one of central London’s most distinctive buildings, with its curved external form and it’s neat Roof Screening Louvres from Levolux. Yet further, it raises the standard for commercial development in the centre of London.
