FLÄKT WOODS Rides Away A Clear Winner

Fläkt Woods has recently won an order to provide the ventilation requirements as part of a supply and installation package for the inspiring new National Indoor Sports Arena & Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome building, currently under construction which will be used for the Glasgow 2014 Commonwealth Games.

The Velodrome is one element of the new facility, which when completed will be one of the biggest indoor facilities of its type in Europe. The National Indoor Sports Arena & Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome is being constructed on a ten and a half acre site close to Celtic Park in the City's east end, which will also be close to the Commonwealth Games Athletes' Village.

Fläkt Woods is supplying a total of 25 air handling units from their EU range. The EU modular air handling unit gives total flexibility with its wide range of functions and options providing the optimum air handling solutions possible.

A number of the units will be the largest type available, EU84's, with high efficiency fans equipped with airflow measurement devices and a capacity of 25m3/s. The supply and exhaust units feature run-around coil recovery systems, heating, integrated local cooling and integrated local controls with connection to a BMS system

A critical factor in specific areas is comfort cooling, with as little air movement as possible, a high degree of energy efficiency and low draught displacement.

The development

The National Indoor Sports Arena and Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome - will house Scotland's first indoor cycling facility – is being built by Sir Robert McAlpine Ltd. Building work is due to be completed Summer 2012.

The Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome features a 250m banked timber track capable of housing 2,500 spectators with 2,000 seated.

The central hub building will provide facilities over four floors including changing accommodation, main entrance concourse, ancillary sports and fitness accommodation and offices.
