SOLARTECH Provides Renewable Energy Solutions For Award Winning Code 6 Project

Mendip Place, Chelmsford one of the first affordable housing schemes to achieve ‘Level 6’ under the Code for Sustainable Homes has won a prestigious gold Green Apple trophy for the most ‘environmentally friendly housing association project’.

Leading renewable energy suppliers, SolarTech Ltd, provided the fully integrated renewable energy solutions for the pioneering ‘Green Space’ development on behalf of the award winners, Essex based housing association CHP.

The innovative project, which showcases some of the latest energy saving design features and technologies available, combined both solar and biomass energy in order to meet the total electricity, heating and hot water requirements of the project’s ten properties, offering the residents low energy cost homes.

“The challenge was to devise a multi-technology solution, which would not only meet the requirements of Code 6, but which would also take into consideration whole life energy costs, efficiency, measurability of energy used and ease of operation for the tenants,” said Shaun Taylor, Managing Director of SolarTech Ltd.

SolarTech worked in partnership with award winners, CHP, architects Ingleton Wood, affordable housing provider Flagship, contractors McCann Homes, project managers Oxbury & Company and Kingspan Potton.

“The experience and expertise of SolarTech, working closely with our other partners, contributed greatly to the success of our groundbreaking ‘Green Space’ development, which has now been formally recognised by Green Apple for its forward thinking approach to sustainable development in the UK,” said Carl Hockey, Development and Regeneration Manager at CHP.

Established in 1994, the Green Apple Awards for the Built Environment and Architectural Heritage are dedicated to ‘recognising and promoting environmental best practice’.
