AMBIUS - 275 Plants, 5 Olive Trees & Half A Tonne Of Soil

Ambius brings a splash of pink to Vista at The Trafalgar, Central London’s largest roof top bar

The Trafalgar’s stunning rooftop bar and chic dining venue, has re-opened for the Summer of 2011. Offering an oasis in the heart of the West End with unparalleled views of the London skyline as a superb backdrop, Vista has recently undergone a major expansion to cover 4000 square metres of space. Now Central London’s largest roof top bar and garden, Vista features a highly sophisticated planting scheme designed and installed by Ambius, the world leader in enhancing buildings through interior and exterior landscaping, scenting and artwork.

Located on the sixth floor of the stylishly transformed Hilton Trafalgar and offering views over Trafalgar Square and other London landmarks such as Big Ben and the London Eye, Vista became a key destination when it launched in the Summer of 2010. Once again, The Trafalgar’s General Manager, Anthony Worrall and his team worked closely with Ambius to help create a cool and contemporary vibe for the newly extended space which now includes a special VIP area along with a whole new dining and drinking space, maximising the fantastic views of the capital.

Based on a theme of ‘a splash of pink’ echoing The Trafalgar’s new brand colours, Ambius worked with The Trafalgar team to select a limited range of structural plants, planters and displays to design a scheme to suit the conditions and create an ambience of relaxed sophistication. A team of four Ambius technicians worked over four days to install over 275 plants in 60 metres of planters as well as in individual containers sourced by Ambius.

Topiary is a key feature of the venue through the use of Buxus balls and spirals while large specimens of black and pink cordylines and laurel are being used to create a more exotic feel. In September the plants will be changed to softer pampas grasses in pink – again reflecting the corporate colours of The Trafalgar. As night falls, the use of soft pink lighting from within selected planters will accent the plants and create a warm glow.

Within the main area, Ambius has also installed five, three metre high replica olive trees, in Ambius’ Kubric wire mesh planters filled with pale grey rocks to create a naturalistic feel. 45 further Kubric planters have been used within the scheme along with black and pink planters. The impressive trees were made to order and again will be lit to bring a magical touch to the venue in the evening.

Further reinforcing the ‘splash of pink’ theme, fresh flower displays featuring seasonal pink flowers will be placed throughout the venue and changed twice a week, all part of the Ambius service.

Finally, Ambius has sourced and installed a striking V shaped planter in white which is placed centrally to divide the space into two distinct areas. Illuminated at night, the planter provides a key focal point and a simple visual reinforcement of the Vista brand.

The Trafalgar has worked with Ambius for the past two years as it underwent a major transformation to become one of the capital’s most exclusive boutique hotels. Contemporary planters and striking plant displays along with ambient scenting in the guest areas, all provided by Ambius, are now key components of The Trafalgar experience.
