BRITISH GYPSUM - Protect Your Hardworking Areas With Thistle Durafinish

Buildings such as hospitals and schools are always prone to internal damage in communal areas, and restoration can be a costly and time consuming process. To address this issue British Gypsum has developed Thistle Durafinish, a hardwearing plaster that can reduce the need for constant repairs.

Developed to be 60 per cent tougher than standard plaster, Thistle Durafinish is able to meet the demands of heavy traffic areas, with high resistance to accidental and intentional damage. Its design allows for easy application and does not require any additional plastering skills, making it simple to apply onto plasterboard or undercoat plaster. Thistle Durafinish can also be used to repair previously finished walls.

Ed Wills, product manager at British Gypsum, said: “Thistle Durafinish is a great addition to the plaster solutions we provide. It has been developed to offer greater damage resistance in high traffic areas such as stairwells and corridors, reducing the need to make expensive and inconvenient repairs.

“This is particularly important in buildings like schools or hospitals where damage often occurs in access areas that ideally need to remain disruption free. Thistle Durafinish will help achieve this while also saving money which, in times when everyone is looking to reduce budgets, can only be a positive thing.”

To ensure Thistle Durafinish lived up to expectation, British Gypsum developed a series of rigorous tests to demonstrate it could withstand the knocks and scrapes the plaster would experience on a daily basis. These included a glance impact test, where the plaster proved to be 60 per cent more resistant to damage, a scratch resistant test using a diamond which showed a 94 per cent lower weight loss compared to normal plaster and finally an abrasion test, where sandpaper was used to simulate repeated rubbing and the damage caused was minimal.
