ICI PAINTS AKZONOBEL Supports Give & Gain Initiative

As part of Give & Gain Day, an initiative organised by not-for-profit organisation, Business in the Community, ICI Paints AkzoNobel has donated products and services to support the makeover of an outdoor leisure area at Shepherds Down School near Winchester.

A team from OM Property Management, part of Peverel Property Management, donated their time to carry out the makeovers and worked with ICI Paints AkzoNobel, which created a bespoke specification to brighten up the school’s outdoor resting area and woodland trail.

Comprising several wooden sculptures and pagodas, the school decided that the area would benefit from a little bit of colour. The experts at the ICI Paints AkzoNobel Colour Studio created a vibrant scheme to help transform the sculptures, creating a customised design for each one using various shades from the Sikkens Cetol HLS Plus product range.

In order to highlight the walkways and make it easier for students to distinguish the pathways, Dulux Trade Ultimate Weathershield Opaque was specified in Lemon Peel for the edge of the wooden paths.

John Benjamin, National Accounts Manager at ICI Paints AkzoNobel, says: “Give & Gain Day is a fantastic initiative. Each year its just gets bigger and better and it’s been brilliant to be part of the scheme in 2011. Too often we take for granted the wonderful work that people in our community do, and Give & Gain Day is a great way to get involved and give something back.

“When creating the design for the woodland trail, we were conscious that a splash of colour would make the world of difference, but we also wanted to preserve the natural beauty of the wood. So we chose to use a Sikkens Cetol woodstain as it is highly translucent, so allows you to inject an element of colour while also enhancing the natural wood grain.”

Emma Darch, Regional Property Manager for OM Property Management, says: “We were all very excited about helping the school and really looking forward to making a difference for the teachers and students. We had never worked on a project like this before, but thought that it was a very rewarding and worthwhile scheme. Volunteers are invaluable to Business in the Community and the organisation wouldn’t be able to meet the needs of local people without their time and dedication. Thanks also to ICI Paints AkzoNobel for providing us with all the paint and equipment!”

Give & Gain Day was even bigger and better this year with over 27,530 volunteers from around the globe taking part.
