CARRIER - New Touch Pilot Control Makes Carrier's AquaSmart™
System Network-Capable
Carrier Corp., the world’s leader in high technology heating, ventilation,
air-conditioning and refrigeration (HVACR) solutions and a unit of United
Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX), introduces the AquaSmart Touch Pilot system
manager for Carrier's AquaSmart™ hydronic system. With a powerful and intuitive
user interface and web-capabilities, the AquaSmart Touch Pilot provides
customers with comprehensive HVAC system management capabilities for building
systems from anywhere in the world at anytime, using a computer or smart phone.
Customers can now manage their heating, ventilation and air-conditioning systems
locally or remotely to ensure optimal system performance and minimize energy
consumption.
Users are guided through the AquaSmart Touch Pilot menus by intuitive colour
icons allowing for example, technicians responsible for building comfort and
control to easily access all parameters and equipment within the heating,
ventilation and air-conditioning systems. Information on energy consumption,
trending and alarms are readily available, allowing system issues, for example,
to be easily identified, localised and remedied. These remote control and
monitoring capabilities may be extended to single or multiple sites that include
several buildings (hotels, branches, district offices), allowing staff and
travel costs to be reduced.
Beyond system level management capabilities, the AquaSmart Touch Pilot also
allows comfort management at an individual level. Each indoor hydronic terminal
unit may be assigned a name and localised (e.g. Unit 1 in the Conference Room on
the 2nd Floor), and comfort temperature points can be defined by unit or by
zone, i.e. for several units that have been combined into a group, according to
different zone requirements (offices, conference rooms, printing rooms, etc.).
The AquaSmart Touch Pilot allows energy use to be optimised by controlling the
HVAC systems according to occupancy, avoiding energy wastage over cooling or
heating unoccupied rooms or zones.
Managing the system in zones provides customers the capability to combine indoor
units that may operate on different occupancy schedules. Occupancy schedules can
be easily and rapidly created and modified and can be used to manage comfort
settings by day or hour and according to holiday or normal periods. Management
using operating schedules allows for indoor comfort in buildings to be
controlled as needed to help save energy.
Technical information about AquaSmart
Depending on the customer’s application requirements, a Carrier AquaSmart system
can include a wide range of energy efficient equipment, including air and water
cooled liquid chillers and heat pumps, hydronic fan coil units (ducted, console,
cassette), and a dedicated fresh air treatment plant. To facilitate and reduce
installation time and costs, all equipment is supplied with factory fitted
controls, and in the case of the AquaSnap liquid chiller ranges, a
factory-integrated hydronic module that includes a water pump, expansion vessel,
flow monitor and valves. The AquaSmart Touch Pilot is the brain and coordination
of the system.
Hydronic systems can be advantageous to meet customer and legislation
requirements as only water is circulated within the building to provide the
cooling and heating needs whilst the refrigerant content is minimised and
contained within the liquid chiller / heat pump often located at the exterior of
the building. Hydronic systems may be controlled easily and precisely offering
further energy saving opportunities for free cooling and heat recovery
applications; such systems are considerably more flexible than
direct-evaporation systems and can be modified, extended or adapted to suit
varying requirements and changes in room usage.
