PRYSMIAN - Safe Racing For Commonwealth Games
 Over 50,000 metres of Prysmian FP200 Gold® and FP600S have been installed in the
Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome, part of the National Indoor Sports Arena and Velodrome
(NISA) in Glasgow. The Velodrome will contain a 250m high-banked wooden cycle
track and an infield area for the cycling events at the 2014 Commonwealth Games.
The entire complex will be one of the largest indoor sports facilities of its
kind in Europe once it reaches final completion in March 2012.
Christopher Allen, Operations Director of FES, the electrical contractor for the
project explains: ‘We used Prysmian’s FP200 Gold® and FP600S to supply essential
services within the Velodrome including the emergency lighting, fire alarms and
the PA system.’
Christopher continues, ‘After a lot of research we decided to use Prysmian due
to their excellent reputation and that their cables came with BASEC and LPCB
approval. Our decision paid off as the FP200 Gold® and FP600S cables were
readily available and easy to install.’
FP200 Gold is approved to BSEN50200 + Annex E, for the “standard” requirements
of BS5839-1 for fire alarm systems and BS5839-8 for voice alarm systems, and
PH60 requirement of BS5266-1 for emergency lighting.
Prysmian FP600S cable is BASEC approved and complies with the highest level F120
of the cable standard BS 7846:2009 for armoured, fire resistant 600/1000V cables
having low emission of smoke and corrosive gas when affected by fire. This
ultimate fire performance cable is designed to meet the more onerous fire
resistant requirements that are essential for services in the Velodrome and
within other public facilities.
Work began on the Velodrome in November 2010 and both the FP200 Gold® and FP600S
were installed by February 2011. The Velodrome’s capacity will be expanded to
4,000 seats during the Commonwealth Games.
The 20th Commonwealth Games will take place for eleven days between 24th July
and 3rd August 2014. 71 countries will participate, making it the largest
sporting event to have taken place in Scotland.
