ROSTEK-UK Scales New Heights
 Rostek-UK, which specialises in designing and installing fall protection and
facade access systems, has completed the installation of a unique climbing
monorail system for two powered cradles around the perimeter of Pioneer Point in
London.
The 33 and 25 storey residential towers stand 113.3m and 91.3m high and when
complete will give residents spectacular views across the City, Canary Wharf and
the Olympic Stadium.
The £200,000 contract, which was awarded by main contractors, London and Regent
Construction, required the working at height specialist to deliver a system that
would enable full access to the buildings’ 17,200m2 of facades. The system also
had to negotiate a number of right angle bends and a vertical section.
This was achieved using a monorail that runs externally around the perimeter of
both buildings, which is supported by a number of steel stub columns connected
to perimeter steel set at a 28 degree pitch. Running along the monorail will be
two of Rostek’s self-hoisting cradles.
Due to the steep slopes of the roofs, Rostek-UK has also developed an abseil
system to allow rope access technicians access to the roof for periodic
maintenance of the monorail brackets.
Architectural project manager for London and Regent Construction, Gary Royston,
has been impressed with Rostek-UK.
“Rostek-UK was recommended to me and I can understand why, as the company has
been totally professional throughout the contract”, he said.
“We have worked extremely well with the designers, who were quick to provide the
right solutions for the scheme. Additionally, the installation and back up
service was excellent, and if any problems developed they were on-site straight
away to sort them out.”
Sales and marketing director of Rostek-UK, John Hepworth is delighted with the
feedback.
