THERMOSCREENS - Get The Most From Your Air Curtain This Winter, Says Thermoscreens

As we move into the winter season, Thermoscreens is reminding customers that running an air curtain in conjunction with a high efficiency condensing boiler can increase energy efficiency, delivering savings of 20-30 per cent on input energy and effectively reducing costs.

Air curtains help minimise energy wastage for retail and commercial applications by providing warm air across a doorway, to condition the cold incoming air and enable an ‘open door’ trading policy. Traditionally, LPHW (low pressure hot water) at 82/71°C has been used as the heat source for air curtains. However, to help reduce ener consumption, condensing boilers are increasingly being used to provide LPHW at temperatures of 60/40°C.

Thermoscreens has developed a range of air curtains to work with 60/40°C condensing boilers. These have been fitted with larger heating coils to increase their efficiency and allow them to perform to the same standards as air curtains designed for 82/71°C LPHW applications.

Air curtains reduce energy loss and costs for the customer by conditioning any incoming cold air to reach a temperature of between 20 and 25°C. This helps to provide a constant and comfortable environment inside the building, reducing the amount of heating which is required and consumed, leading to lower energy bills.

It is estimated that the average double doorway could be losing as much as 32kW of energy every hour and at 10p per kWh, that can equate to up to £7,000 worth of energy escaping every year. By installing an air curtain, customers can cut this wastage by up to 70 per cent, drastically reducing energy bills. Combining this air curtain with a condensing boiler can deliver even greater savings.
