COLLINGWOOD LIGHTING Adds A Touch Of Glamour To Club Helsinki

After the music, lighting is perhaps the most crucial factor in the success of a bar or nightclub, contributing enormously to the mood and experience of the customers within a venue. So when nightclub owner James Cockerill began work on the refit of Club Helsinki in Leicester, he turned to Collingwood Lighting to develop an exciting and energising lighting design.

With ideas about the atmosphere and mood he wanted to create already in mind, James enlisted the help of Glenn Shawley of Midland Electrical Installations and Collingwood Lighting Sales Representative, Mark Owen, in order to realise his vision.

James commented: “After some initial discussions with Glenn I had a few ideas about the overall effect I wanted to create, but Mark’s advice was extremely valuable in helping us develop those plans and turn them into a reality. We were looking for a really fresh and exciting design and Mark was able to show us how to achieve the results we wanted.”

The outcome is a fresh and contemporary lighting design that combines ground lights with LED strips to create an invigorating and uplifting atmosphere. The experience begins from the moment customers set foot across the threshold, with 16 Collingwood GL090 RGB colour changing LED ground lights embedded in the walk- over entrance outside the venue.

Combining strong light output with minimal power consumption, the robust stainless steel construction of these 9watt lights provides smooth aesthetics alongside a long maintenance free lifespan. Quick to fit, the low profile and simple wing springs ensure straightforward installation.

Inside the club, Collingwood LED IP strip lighting has been used to highlight key areas, such as the fixed seating section, where the alcoves are picked out in pools of white light and shadow. At the bar, blue LED IP strip has been mounted behind a white Perspex bar front, creating a diffused blue haze, while the same blue lights illuminate the edges of the staircase leading to the toilets.

Encased in hardwearing PVC, LED IP strip can be used in a wide variety of indoor and outdoor applications, making it a flexible solution for all types of stair edging, bar edging, floor marking and wall enhancing. With an LED output of 3.6 watts per meter and an IP66 rating, it offers extensive scope for creative lighting design without compromising on performance capabilities.

“Collingwood was absolutely our first choice when it came to selecting the lighting,” said Glenn. “We used a lot of Mark’s advice in order to develop the design, but ultimately it was the quality of Collingwood’s products that helped sway the final decision. All fixtures and fittings in a nightclub need to be able to withstand heavy use and it offered real peace of mind knowing that the lights are backed up with an assurance of durability.”
