FLÄKT WOODS - Exeter University Whole House Heat Recovery

Fläkt Woods is supplying whole house heat recovery units as part of an overall ventilation contract for student accommodation upgrade at Exeter University.

The University is in the midst of a multi million investment programme on the Streatham Campus. A critical factor in the selection process has been the environmental sustainability of the construction and refurbishment activities, as well as ensuring that the University minimises carbon dioxide emissions and resource use over the lifetime of the developments.

Located at University’s Streatham Campus, the development involved new-build and complete fit out studio accommodation, en-suite bedrooms and kitchens.

Fläkt Woods suggested the Xcell 350V EC units, partly because of their extremely low sound levels, and also because of their variable performance of up to 370m3/h, making them ideal for larger property applications.

At the heart of the Xcell 350V EC BP is the Xcell counter flow heat exchanger cell with an average heat recovery rate of up to 93%. For the user this heat saved means lower heating energy use.

During the summer months an automatic summer bypass facility provides free cooling when the evening outside air temperature drops below that of indoors. And in the winter an automatic defrost cycle prevents freezing of the condensation removed from the dwelling.
