EATON’S Latest Video Showcases UPS Paralleling Technology

Eaton has produced a video to provide a comprehensive and visual understanding of how its patented Powerware Hot Sync® load-sharing technology works. The video shows the technology in action phase by phase, and demonstrates its testing in real time. The video can be viewed on Eaton’s YouTube channel at www.youtube.com/user/UPSBackup .

Hot Sync technology guarantees maximum system availability and reliability by eliminating a single point of failure in a parallel UPS system in which two or more units share the same load. If one unit fails, the others take over its tasks, isolate the damaged unit and continue to supply electricity without interruption. Paralleling can be used to gain redundancy and add capacity to the system. In addition, Hot Sync technology is used to parallel power converter modules within a UPS.

The latest video, shot at Eaton’s UPS factory in Finland, highlights how Hot Sync enables the highest level of power availability for customers’ critical systems. It gives a detailed demonstration of the way the technology shares the load when communication between UPS systems breaks down, and what happens when one power module inside one of the parallel connected UPS’s fails and the communication line is broken.

It is unique because it enables the UPS units to operate completely independently; no external signals or communication wiring between the units are required for output phase synchronisation and balanced load share.”
