CELOTEX Proves Golden At Midas Development
Building a new development called The Shires in Yeovil, Midas Homes looked to
provide superb energy efficiency as part of its commitment to environmental
management. Having proved so popular on a number of its other developments,
Midas Homes specified high performance insulation from Celotex.
Built on the site of an old garden nursery, The Shires comprises 33 homes, split
between larger four bedroom properties and two bedroom coach houses. Situated on
the outskirts of Yeovil, Somerset’s most thriving town and home to the UK’s
aerospace and aviation industry, The Shires has easy access to an array of
schools, shops and leisure activities, making it ideal for families.
The construction was completed by Midas Homes’ own construction unit. Part of
Galliford Try Homes, the company specialises in building and selling its own
developments. It often specifies Celotex for its thermal performance and
workability and selected 3,500 square metres of 50mm Celotex CW4000 for use in
the cavity walling of The Shires’ houses.
Offering impressive low lambda values along with moisture resistance, ease of
use on site, low global warming potential and zero ozone depletion potential,
Celotex polyisocyanurate (PIR) insulation boards outperform many other
materials, including mineral fibre products. Providing excellent thermal
insulation levels per mm, Celotex CW4000 proved superb at minimising cavity
thickness whilst ensuring that the homes of The Shires had super effective
thermal envelopes.
Featuring independently tested low emissivity foil facers, Celotex CW4000 gives
improved performance within cavity air spaces. With a highly impressive 0.022 W/mK
lambda, , the product proves highly effective at keeping the cold out and the
warmth in – and provides an air and moisture barrier in cavities.
Celotex’s CW4000 boards are an established and proven means of minimising
heating needs – thereby reducing the UK’s carbon footprint, 60% of which is a
direct result of the built environment. The first PIR insulation to be awarded
an A+ rating when compared to the BRE Green Guide 2008, the insulation is a
tested and highly reliable means of reducing heating costs and ensuring energy
efficiency in line with the construction industry’s move towards sustainability.
In addition to creating superb thermal envelopes for buildings, Celotex CW4000
boards also have a low Global Warming Potential and zero Ozone Depletion
Potential.
The boards were easily installed in the masonry wall cavities of the houses at
The Shires development. Though hard wearing, Celotex is exceptionally
lightweight and can be easily cut to requirements on site with a saw. Held in
place with wall ties and clips, the low emissivity of the boards and their
dimensional stability ensure that they will provide long lasting insulation.
A cornerstone of Celotex’s product family, CW4000 insulation boards are
frequently used in a range of construction projects across the country. They
form part of a complete range of PIR insulation solutions that Celotex offers.
This range also includes the unrivalled, next generation FR5000 board, which
features a super low lambda value of 0.021 W/mK, along with Class O fire
performance and an ‘A+’ rating when compared to the BRE Green Guide 2008.
The high specification homes of The Shires were finished with a range of
contemporary kitchenware and stylish bathroom fittings. Ideal for young
professional families, the successful development is a result of carefully
considered design and specification. Though hidden, this care also applies to
the use of Celotex in the cavity wall spaces – which will play a key role in
lowering the energy usage of the development, saving money and protecting the
environment long into the future.
