DULUX TRADE Weathershield ‘Putts’ A Winning Finish On Golf Clubhouse

Rufford Park Golf & Country Club’s popular clubhouse in Nottinghamshire has undergone a substantial renovation, using Dulux Trade Weathershield Ultimate Opaque to give a fresh, durable finish to its exterior woodwork.

The timber-clad clubhouse is set in 270 acres of park and woodland within the heart of Sherwood Forest and contains a bar, restaurant and function room, regularly used by the golf club’s members and visitors. Although surrounded by stunning scenery, the clubhouse is continually exposed to the elements, which can have a demanding effect on the exterior woodwork.

To give the clubhouse a boost, the owners of Rufford Park Golf & Country Club appointed local painting and decorating company, Sanders and Thomas, to improve and enhance the condition of the timber cladding.

Graham Sanders, owner of Sanders and Thomas, said: “The owners required a hardwearing, premium finish that would withstand all weather conditions. Therefore it was essential that we selected a coating which was extremely durable and flexible in order to meet these demands. The owners also wanted a fresh colour scheme which would brighten up the building, and also conceal the building’s existing dark brown coating.

“Dulux Trade provides a wealth of product and colour advice, so we approached Janet Robertson, Specification Account Manager at Dulux Trade, for her help in selecting the best product for the job. Following her guidance, we chose Dulux Trade Weathershield Ultimate Opaque because it would protect the timber, as well as provide an aesthetically pleasing finish.”

The Opaque range is available in 600 colours meaning the owner had a broad choice of colours to choose from to meet the desired specification. Following careful deliberation, Dark Acacia, a deep red shade, was selected.

To transform the exterior, two coats of Dulux Trade Weathershield Ultimate Opaque were applied to the cladding. The high performance coating, designed not to crack or flake, contains unique wood protection technology, meaning external joinery is protected for up to ten years. Its excellent water repellency also helps to extend maintenance cycles, so the finish will look better for longer.

“The coating was really easy to apply and the striking colour masked the existing shade perfectly. It really complements the picturesque landscape,” explains Graham.

Commenting on the finished result, Helen Hagues, manager for Rufford Park Golf & Country Club, said: “The clubhouse looks fantastic. The colour has totally transformed the appearance of the building and helps to provide a great impression to our guests.
