MARLEY PLUMBING & DRAINAGE - Individual Drainage Made Simple By
Marley
Quick and straightforward installation, coupled with a competitive price point,
are the main benefits that led to products from across Marley Plumbing and
Drainage’s portfolio of underground and sustainable drainage systems being
installed at a new development of houses in Glasgow.
Broomfield Road is ongoing development of approximately 200 bungalows, terraced
and semi detached properties being developed by Alexander Morton Homes as part
of the Red Road regeneration project – a £60million initiative that is
transforming a neglected area in the north of the city.
In order to comply with requirements for sustainable drainage set out by SEPA,
each property has been fitted with an individual attenuation tank. When it came
to specifying the system, Jim Malcolm, Development Manager at Alexander Morton
Homes and long time Marley customer, pushed for Marley’s Waterloc 250
attenuation cells to be installed.
“I have used Marley’s products for many years and they have always been very
high quality,” explains Jim. “I have never had any problems with them, so Marley
is always the manufacturer that I turn to. In this particular development, the
simplicity of the Waterloc 250 system really appealed to me as a solution, as
the cells are easy to install and offer excellent value for money across the
project. The introduction of the orifice plate allowed cost savings to be made
whilst still achieving the statutory requirements.”
Waterloc 250 is a modular storage cell for infiltration and attenuation
purposes. Designed to store storm-water temporarily below ground and release it
at a pre-determined rate, the system is quickly assembled by alternately
rotating the interlocking cells 180°. This limits the peak flow of water,
reducing the likelihood of flooding downstream.
Enabling maximum flexibility and with a storage volume of 96%, the size of the
attenuation tank is critical to allow sufficient capacity to prevent flooding –
in this particular application, each property required three Waterloc 250 cells
to fulfil its capacity needs. Marley Technical Services offers a design service
that can assist with the calculations for the correct amount of storage needed.
As well as the Waterloc 250 cells, Jim specified products from Marley’s Quantum
Sewer range. Made from a structured wall construction in PVCu, the range
delivers the flexibility to tolerate ground movement without damage, whilst
withstanding the combined effects of backfill and loading. What’s more, the
large diameter pipes require fewer joints, which reduces the likelihood of leaks
and blockages.
Commenting on the products installed, Senior Civil Engineering Technician Neil
Winter, from project engineers Odin Consulting said: “Both the Waterloc 250
cells and the Quantum Sewer system supplied by Marley have provided a neat
solution to the drainage requirements of this site and we are very happy with
their performance.”
