MITSUBISHI ELECTRIC - TSG Building Services Fits Ecodan® To £9M
Housing Project
TSG Building Services plc (TSG) has won a £9M contract to install Ecodan® air
source heat pumps in over 800 homes in Oxfordshire. The heat pumps have been
chosen to replace the electric storage heaters currently in use to offer
residents more affordable heating and hot water.
"This contract award underlines our company’s ability to make a real impact in
the rapidly developing market of environmental technologies,” said John
Holloway, Contracts Director for TSG, responsible for the Renewable Energy
sector of the company. “Our installers have all completed Mitsubishi Electric’s
training programme and have built a high level of expertise in this area. Our
engineers are also attending training in order to provide technical support.”
The contract has been awarded by Cottsway Housing Association, the largest local
Registered Provider (RP) in the West Oxfordshire District.
Simon Thompson, Senior Surveyor for Cottsway said: “Fuel poverty is a real
concern for us and a major issue for many of our tenants. The heating systems
currently in use in these homes are inefficient and expensive to run. We wanted
to replace them with a system that would provide a comfortable and efficient
alternative for our tenants, but at a more affordable cost.
“Mitsubishi Electric’s Ecodan air source heat pumps meet the specifications laid
down for the job. Replacing electric storage heaters with air source heat pumps
will not only help lower our tenants’ energy bills, but will also help us to
substantially reduce our carbon footprint for these homes.”
The project is set to run over a four year period and each install will take
approximately five days to complete. TSG has begun site surveys to check the
dwellings are properly insulated before installation work is carried out,
helping to ensure that the Ecodans will perform at maximum efficiency.
Once installation is complete tenants will be shown how to operate the system
and given an information pack. Should they require further assistance once the
installers have left the site, an advisor will visit the property to assist if
required.
“Operating the new system will require a change in mind-set for most tenants. In
the past, the way they have saved money was to turn the heaters on only when
absolutely necessary,” said Mr Holloway. “The Ecodan system is designed to run
constantly at much lower temperatures providing a comfortable, even temperature
throughout the house, using less energy, which in turn means lower energy
bills.”
