Wall Protection - Impact Protection - Hand Rails - Door Protection
Construction Specialties (C/S) is set to begin extensive
interior retrofit works at North Manchester General Hospital
following a series of successful installations across the
North West.
C/S and its in-house installation team, Conspec Contracts,
will be providing the nuclear medicine, paediatric,
outpatients and phlebotomy areas at North Manchester General
with a total solution designed to protect the hospital
interiors from wear-and-tear in heavy traffic areas.
The contract comes on the back of the company's previous
works in the hospital's A&E and orthopaedic outpatients'
areas in conjunction with VINCI Construction UK, who also
consulted and employed C/S on a £17m pioneering cancer
centre at The Christie in Oldham, Greater Manchester.
Working alongside project architects Taylor Young, C/S
provided and installed bespoke protection systems to the
ground, first and second floors of The Christie's
Radiotherapy Department.
"We were looking at ways to prolong the lifespan of the
facility and indeed safeguard the huge investment that was
ploughed into creating the Centre," says VINCI Construction
UK's Alistair Ruttle, Project Quantity Surveyor.
"Construction Specialties appreciates the architectural
requirements in such a high impact and sensitive environment
and the resulting system achieves superior yet unobtrusive
protection to the walls and door surfaces throughout the
building."
To protect external corners vulnerable to damage, C/S
installed its Acrovyn® corner guards, which flex under
impact and prevent continuous maintenance. Crash rails from
the same range were also fitted with shock-absorbing bumper
cushions to maximise impact protection and pedestrian
support; while bed locators mounted on powder coated
aluminium brackets were fitted to prevent damage to the
department's walls. From a hygiene perspective, Acrovyn
sheeting was used to stop chemicals and other stains
spoiling wall and door surfaces.
At North Manchester General Hospital, C/S has already
installed heavy duty crashrails, impact and scratch
resistant rub rails and corner guards; as well as 2mm
Acrovyn sheeting to the walls. Kick plates and push plates
protect internal doors throughout the hospital. The next
works will begin in late November 2011.
"We're obviously immensely proud to be associated with such
landmark projects. Our relationship with VINCI Construction
UK is growing project-by-project and we are delighted that
they are seeing the value in our work. It is especially
gratifying to be involved in transforming patient services
and creating a lasting legacy that will help people for many
more years to come," says Kate Waterston, Acrovyn product
manager.
