Dulux Trade Healthcare Environments

Dulux Trade has launched a new guide, Transforming the Healing Environment, designed to help specifiers use colour and design effectively in healthcare environments.

Transforming the Healing Environment brings together the company’s expertise in colour, particularly the healthcare field, and its experience from working with The King’s Fund on a number of high profile healthcare projects. The result is an informative guide which demonstrates how to create a well-designed scheme that can contribute positively to an environment in which patients and staff can feel comfortable.

What’s more, understanding that different areas within healthcare establishments have very different requirements and constraints, Dulux Trade has created a series of pre-designed, easy-to-use, colour schemes, divided by key spaces: public areas, patient accommodation and treatment rooms. Alongside colour advice, the resource provides guidance on how specifiers can meet NHS Estates Health Technical Memorandum 56 (HTM 56*).

In addition, the guide also outlines how to use colour to meet the Equality Act, including design guidance for using colour and Light Reflectance Value (LRV) to improve the built environment for the visually impaired.

Specifiers will also find informative guidance about the specialist products that can help specifiers create a clean and sterile environment, such as Dulux Trade Sterishield. Sterishield is ideal for use in healthcare facilities, including operating theatres, as it can inhibit bacteria within 12 hours of contamination, preventing the spread of infection in conjunction with good hygiene practice, and is proven in independent tests to be effective against MRSA, E.coli and Pseudomonas Aeruginosa.

Chris Watts, Brand Manager Specialist for Products and Primers, commented: “A healthcare facility poses different challenges to other working environments. But choosing the most suitable products to achieve a transformation that benefits both patients and health professionals need not be a difficult process. Therefore, we’ve aimed to create an easy-to-use guide which helps specifiers achieve a safer, cleaner healthcare environment in which professionals can focus on the needs of patients.”
