Dulux Trade Paint Helps Make Dreams Come True

Dulux Trade has helped two lucky children achieve the bedroom of their dreams by donating a range of colourful and on trend coatings and wallpaper, as part of a competition run by South Wales housing association Newport City Homes (NCH).

The ‘Design Your Ideal Bedroom’ competition was set up by NCH to offer its residents, aged between five and 16, the chance to have their bedroom designs turned into reality with a deluxe makeover, including newly painted walls, carpets and furniture.

Dani, aged 12, and Megan, aged seven, were selected as the winners of the competition, after judges were impressed with the creativity and imagination of their drawings.

As part of the prize, Dulux Trade worked closely with several interior design students from Glamorgan University to help select the colourways and paint which best suited the children’s designs. Paint and wallpaper was then donated free of charge through the Dulux Decorator Centre in Cardiff, and NCH building and maintenance contractors Chris Arlett Painting and Decorating and Eamonn Kilby Decorators were tasked to carry out the work.

To transform Megan’s bedroom into a room fit for a princess, two coats of Dulux Trade Vinyl Silk was applied in a variety of striking pink shades. To produce Dani’s contemporary monochrome-theme design, black and white patterned wallpaper was supplied to create a striking feature wall, while Dulux Trade Vinyl Silk was applied in a fresh, white colour to the rest of the walls.

Both ceilings were coated with Dulux Trade Vinyl Matt to provide a tough and durable finish and the woodwork and trim was finished in Dulux Trade Undercoat and Gloss, in white.

Commenting on the prize, James Green, Communications Manager at Dulux Trade, said: “We are delighted to have been involved in the makeover competition, and to help to create Dani and Megan’s dream bedrooms. We have a close relationship with Newport City Homes and often get involved with its community projects. It’s always great to see so many different groups coming together for the good of the community, and we are pleased that our donation has given the girls a room to enjoy for years to come.”
