Honeywell prescribes health approach to security for expanding
hospital system
Honeywell Win-Pak™ Access Control installed at The
Harley Street Clinic
BURGESS HILL, UK, 6 June 2006 - Honeywell (NYSE:HON)
today announced the prestigious Harley Street Clinic,
part of HCA International, will be outfitted with the
Honeywell Security Win-Pak access control system.
The project is particularly challenging because the
Clinic comprises a network of interconnecting buildings
in Harley Street and neighbouring roads, and most
departments are located across different floors,
requiring access control at each entrance. The tender
for the initial specification was awarded to specialist
installers West London Security, which proposed the
Win-Pak access control system and proximity readers with
site coded cards.
Clinic staff will be able to gain access to relevant
departments at all HCA hospital buildings via a photo-ID
card based access control system. “I wanted a well-known
product, one that had been tried and tested and had a
future,” explains Vic Hensher, Estates/Project Manager
at The Harley Street Clinic.
HCA International has commenced a five-year security
programme, which means that Win-Pak needs to be scalable
and have the ability to grow with the needs of The
Harley Street Clinic. “We are in this for the long haul,
and not looking for a five-minute wonder,” adds Hensher.
Win-Pak is expandable and can be networked across
different hospital sites, and through software upgrades,
and it has the ability to integrate with CCTV and
intruder alarm systems.
Win-Pak advanced authorisation improves security control
by ensuring that staff or visitors can only access
authorised areas. For example, only paediatric nurses
and doctors have access to the paediatric floor.
Security staff can access Win-Pak software using a web
browser to amend, cancel or increase authorisation to
all cards – with zone and time restrictions, and can
create colour-coded, access-restricted visitor passes.
Following the successful installation of Win-Pak at The
Harley Street Clinic, other hospitals within HCA
International - including The Portland and The
Wellington have also upgraded to the Honeywell access
control solution. This means that consultants and staff
who work across all hospitals can use the same ID card
for access to each hospital building. West London
Security has also completed this installation work.
Hensher adds: “We chose West London Security because
they offered the best overall solution, based on the
best products and meeting our requirements. They did an
excellent presentation, demonstrating that they were the
right people for the job – with the right solution.”
Vic Hensher concludes: “The Healthcare Commission is
very pleased with our new security measures. Word of
mouth is that security at The Harley Street Clinic is
first rate, and that it is the place to go if you have
worries or concerns of that nature. I am very happy with
the system”.
