Coolmation launches new ECA compliant 'Z power' range of high capacity - high efficiency air cooled chillers

Coolmation, the UK’s exclusive distributor for the Rhoss range of chillers, has introduced the new Z Power R134A range of air cooled chillers. Available in cooling capacities from 750kW to 1285kW, the Z Power range is the first of a new series of high technology products developed by Rhoss to offer the best EER (European Efficiency Ratio) performances available on the market, more than meeting the ECA criteria for chillers in this range.

The new Z Power range from Rhoss is the result of a unique partnership between the manufacturer and the respected University of Udine. Bringing together the research and development teams from the two organizations has allowed Rhoss to create a new breed of chiller which combines energy efficient heat exchange technology with an effective control strategy. High points of the Z Power HE chillers include:

Screw compressors:
The latest generation of semi-hermetic screw compressors, specifically developed for R134A refrigerant.

Single pass counter flow shell and tube evaporators:
Designed and constructed in such a way that the water and refrigerant passes are always counter flow and pressure drops across the tube bundle are minimised. Both features increase the efficiency of evaporation and pro rata, energy consumption.

Economiser circuits:
The microprocessor controlled economiser circuit, comprises a sub cooler and an expansion device which increases cooling capacity and EER by directly integrating with the control system.

Condensers with special fin technology:
The air cooled condensing section, coil and fans, has been optimised by redesigning the tube geometry and fin formation. The result is more efficient heat transfer and lower fan motor power input.

Electronic expansion valves:
An electronic expansion valve achieves precise control of refrigerant mass flow and allows the system to operate at lower condensing pressures resulting in significant reductions in compressor power input.

Microprocessor control:
The controller provides management of each of the compressors 8 capacity steps, from 22% to 100% of total cooling capacity and condenser fan step or speed control to give smooth control of variations in load and ambient temperatures down to -5ºC or -10ºC

Guaranteed performance:
The performance of this range is verifiable by testing carried out in the new Rhoss Laboratory. This new facility is one of only two in Europe, capable of operating chillers at their full capacity up to 1500kW and has recently been officially certified by Eurovent. Because of its unique features, Eurovent has agreed that certification tests can be conducted within it.

Rhoss is one of Italy’s largest manufacturers of water chillers, ranging in capacities from 3kW to 1500kW, and also produces a comprehensive selection of associated cooling and airside equipment. All Rhoss spa products comply fully with the latest European legislation and standards.
