Jackson nets high profile Witham Sports Development

Jackson Building Services has begun work on a high profile £2 million project to upgrade facilities at the Spinks Lane sports centre in Witham for Braintree District Council. The project has received a record £1 million cash donation from the Football Foundation, a charity set up to develop grass roots support for football and use its influence as a force for social cohesion, with a total of £1 million coming from Braintree DC, and once completed will provide top class sporting facilities within the district.

The project sees Jackson construct a full sized, floodlit all weather artificial turf pitch at the site, which is adjacent to John Bramston School and the Bramston Sports Centre. The multi-use pitch will be full fenced and provides an excellent facility for both the school and local community. The project also involves the construction of a single-storey pavilion building to replace the existing changing block. This new steel and brick constructed pavilion will comprise 12 changing rooms, disabled facilities, match officials rooms and a meeting/teaching room. Externally, Jackson will also form a new car park and carry out hard and soft landscaping finishes.

The project is being carefully phased to enable use of the new all weather pitch by January 2007, ahead of the handover of the new pavilion, which is due for completion by the end of May 2007.

Councillor Michael Lager, commented: “It's little over a month since the Football Foundation grant was announced and this rapid start of the project shows everyone's commitment to providing excellent facilities for the enjoyment and health of people in Witham, Braintree and the whole district.”

Michael Manning, construction director for Jackson Building Services, commented: "Working closely with Braintree District Council and the Football Foundation we are looking to deliver greatly improved sporting facilities at Witham that will benefit the entire community. Support for the scheme has been overwhelming and thanks to the highest possible financial award from the Football Foundation we are delighted that the area will get the high quality sporting facilities it deserves."
