New gesis® RC Wireless Switching from Wieland
Wieland Electric’s gesis® RC range of
radio-controlled switching devices combines gesis®
technology with radio technology to provide fast and
simple installation with minimal costs and maximum
flexibility. Radio technology is ideal for areas within
building installations where cables should not or cannot
be laid and is ideally suited to operate functions such
as lighting and blind control.
These ecologically friendly switches are battery-less,
help reduce the amount of cable material used i.e.
copper and plastic etc, and lessen the exposure to
electro-magnetic fields and emissions. The piezoelectric
technology uses the “energy harvesting” principle. The
push of a light switch can generate sufficient energy to
turn on and off lights up to 30 metres away.
The switches can be freely assigned to the switching
outputs and require no special training for the
installer or special software. Incorrect control
operations are avoided due to the telegram structure and
identification mechanisms used. Even if the radio
receiver is installed behind metal ceilings,
transmission will work without a problem.
The gesis® RC system offers a choice of two way and four
way switching modules with the mains supply and outgoing
units for the radio devices connected via the popular
gesis® connector system. The installation is therefore
carried out quickly and error free. In the case of
refurbished buildings, the devices can be removed very
easily and quickly reinstated.
The system has a range of up to 100m, depending on the
layout of the building and the materials used in the
fabric of the building. It uses a radio frequency of
868.3MHz with a bandwidth of 280kHz and a sending power
of just 10mW for the duration that the switch is pressed
with transmission time approx 30 ms for three identical
telegrams.
For luminaire connection, only the cable lengths and
number of items need to be planned and due to the
distributed installation of switchgear, considerable
savings can be made on cable, distribution board space
and cable trunking. Installers can also save time by
having the luminaries already fitted with the
corresponding gesis® CON components by the manufacturers
which means the simple plug in connection eradicates
time consuming wiring errors.
Benefits to the gesis® RC system include no additional
materials i.e. back boxes, cables and terminals are
required for the switch connections – therefore no
additional costs.
