British Harlequin on show at PLASA 2006

British Harlequin plc will be exhibiting at the PLASA06 show to be held at London’s Earls Court, 10th to 13th September. Showing a wide range of examples from their extensive range on stand L22, visitors will able to compare stage, studio and dance floor coverings and sprung floor systems, plus there will be expert support on hand to provide guidance and advice.

Commenting on prospects for this year’s show, Marketing Manager, Monica Arnott said, ‘We are looking forward to gaining many interesting new enquiries and meeting customers from overseas. This year we are also announcing the introduction of a dance floor rental initiative aimed at providing temporary sprung floors and professional dance surfaces in venues without a suitable facility for dance. We have decided to launch this service in the London area where we have already piloted the scheme for a number of events that will include the forthcoming visit of the Merce Cunningham Dance Company to The Roundhouse.’

Harlequin manufactures a comprehensive range of floorings for the performing arts from portable, roll-out floors to cushioned, heavy duty permanent floors, plus permanent and touring sprung floor systems. These are complemented by a range of accessories including tapes and cleaning products, roll straps, roll storage cart and bags plus an extensive range of ballet barres.

Recently available is Harlequin's useful new publication, "Specifying Dance Floors - a Guide for Architects", written specifically with architects in mind, as up to now there has been a lack of specific information available to architects asked to design dance and drama spaces. Commercial sports floors, for example, have completely different characteristics to proper sprung dance floors and the wide spectrum of dance disciplines requires not only a variety of dance surfaces, but also of sprung systems. The new guide details the differences between the sprung floors in Harlequin's range; gives test results and specifications, together with case studies of a variety of installations worldwide. Dancers need to have confidence in the floor in order to perform without fear of slipping or falling and the guide explains the importance of proper sprung dance floors, not only in enhancing performance but also in helping to protect against the hazards of long term injuries from hard, unyielding floors.
