Support and Quality swing it for housing association boilers

At Martlet Homes, a Housing Association covering the Chichester area, high quality and low life costs are ideal virtues. When the company chose its heat-only and system boilers for new and refurbished homes, Johnson and Starley's RENO range was chosen for exactly those qualities - as well as the company's excellent backup services.

Martlet's Jerry Duckworth, Electrical and Mechanical Manager, explains: "After considerable research into the options available, we started to install the RENO's because they met all our criteria for build quality and operating efficiency." Jerry was also impressed with the RENO's life expectancy, "With a stainless steel heat exchanger and high quality, branded components, we have every faith that the boilers will perform with low maintenance for a very long time," he enthuses.

The nominal 25kW RENO 25S system boiler and RENO 25H heating-only boiler are being exclusively fitted in all appropriate installations and, so far, more than 200 units have been installed since April 2005. Martlet has housing at several locations in the Chichester area.

RENO boilers are very efficient - complying with SEDBUK Band A - and are fully modulating down to 7kW on 25kW models, with smaller-capacity boilers modulating down to 4kW. RENO represents a package of sophisticated, well engineered features that enable it to deliver high efficiency for the maximum proportion of the time it is operating, a significant factor when Martlet were selecting boilers. The RENO's burner will adjust the output according to demand and therefore reduce in output while maintaining its efficiency. This makes it more economic to run. It cycles less than a boiler which will not modulate as low, and the whole set up runs more quietly.

Other factors considered by Martlet were the very small footprint of the RENO and the versatility of siting, with a flue length of up to 30 meters possible. The winning by Johnson and Starley of British Gas' STEPS award last year was further evidence of the company's ability to meet service and supply targets, another fact not lost on Mr Duckworth.

Following the choice of RENO, Martlet has been impressed with the "superb service and support facilities" offered by Johnson and Starley. Jerry Duckworth continues, "We have very high standards here at Martlet and expect suppliers to have good support in place - Johnson and Starley's people have always been there when we've needed them and their training has been second to none."
