New Optex external detector combines best of all worlds

REDWATCH MULTI provides first ‘true’ BS8418-compliant RVRC-required sensor

Optex Europe – leader in detection technology – has launched a new product within its REDWALL family of proven external detectors. The REDWATCH MULTI, has multiple benefits including a combined day/night camera and PIR detector providing the first ‘true’ BS8418 compliant RVRC-required sensor, and an effective operational mounting height increased from 2.3 metres to four metres.

REDWATCH MULTI, a revised and upgraded version of its proven REDWATCH technology, has a significantly more advanced high quality colour/mono camera with varifocal lens integrated with the PIR to deliver a combined camera/detector sensor as Nigel Hackett, Sales Manager for Optex Europe explains:

“The matched fields of view of camera and detector as required under BS8418, ensure that all sensor activation is verified by the video camera and vice versa, thus dramatically reducing false and unwanted alarm activations and improving the efficiency of the monitored response. It also greatly simplifies the specification and installation process,” he adds.

The new product also has the benefit of a higher mounting height. Customers now have the option of a standard 2.3 metre mounting height providing a 50 x 30 metre detection range, or a 30 x 20 metre detection pattern at an increased height of four metres.

“Many installers and end-users alike want to mount sensors out of reach of would-be vandals but until now it has not been possible,” Nigel continues. “With the new REDWATCH MULTI, installers now have a choice depending on the requirements of each individual site.”

REDWATCH MULTI is ideal for all outdoor applications, with a heavy metal casing to resist sudden temperature changes, a white finish to keep internal temperatures low and comprehensive sealing to ensure a draught-free environment for the precision temperature sensors. The combination of detector and camera housings results in reduced installation time while a single 12V DC supply powers both units.

As with all products within its external detector range, REDWATCH MULTI is particularly adept at countering one of the biggest headaches for remote monitoring centres, installers and end-users associated with false alarms in outdoor detection: miss-match of the camera lens view and the detection pattern. This is a specific requirement of BS8418 and REDWATCH MULTI now easily deals with issues caused by changes to the operational requirement on the remote site; a slight alteration to the viewing angle of the camera now means that the detection pattern will follow, perfectly.

As Nigel concludes: “REDWATCH MULTI represents a new generation of detectors that will greatly assist installers in terms of ease of set up, and will finally give RVRCs a true ‘sensor’ that helps improve their operational efficiency, reduces costs, and that their operators can trust in the event of an alarm activation as being genuine.”
