Berlin’s Main Station – the centre of the new European railway turning platform

Berlin’s Main Station – the centre of the new European railway turning platform with connections to local or long-distance trains, regional trains, suburban trains, tubes, trams and busses – was ceremoniously inaugurated on 26 May 2006 by the rail supervisor Mr. Hartmut Mehdorn and the German chancellor Mrs. Angela Merkel by means of an impressive and effective light show.

The architectural masterpiece in the centre of Berlin bundles rail tracks in North/South as well as East/West direction on five traffic levels, so that the travel time is considerably reduced on a number of railway routes. The two so-called “bow buildings“ which are crosswise towering above the glass roof of the station are distinctively.

The modern and transparent construction is a sign for an open - and broad-minded country and confirms Berlin as one of the international metropolis of the railway traffic.

After a construction time of almost eight years, around 80 shops and restaurants are inviting railway travellers as well as tourists to stay in this nice building complex flooded with light. Six panorama lifts made of glass are bringing the station to life when changing the trains.

Of course, Thermokon room operating panels were used with this spectacular construction where intelligent technology and exceptional design was required.

In the service areas room operating panels type WRF07 in the design GiraE2 and Gira Esprit are ensuring a convenient atmosphere. The panels, communicating with Siemens controllers, have a set point adjuster and an integrated temperature sensor.
