CIOB launches site management award scheme

As part of the 30th anniversary programme to celebrate its Site Management Education and Training Scheme (SMETS), the Chartered Institute of Building (CIOB) has developed national awards aimed at extending research and presentation skills and providing a direct contribution to improvements in site management practice and activity. The award scheme is supported by a standard assessment process which will engage colleges, employers and CIOB regional staff.

The scheme, which was formally launched in June 2006, is linked directly to the CIOB Level 4 Site Management programme and candidates who have successfully completed the Certificate and are currently progressing through the Diploma are eligible to apply.

In October of each year, candidates meeting the initial criteria will be nominated by their centre with whom they are registered and then proceed through two further stages. These will evaluate both the extent and depth of experience of candidates in site management and their application of original thought to practical improvements in site management practice.

Nick Marsh, CIOB education manager stated, “The award scheme will consolidate both the knowledge development and practical experience of our site management candidates and enable them to improve skills in research and presentation which in turn, will enhance personal qualities for their future careers. This will provide value to both the candidate and to the CIOB and demonstrates our continuing commitment to improving site management training and education.”
