Emergi-Lite’s long-life lighting for life-long learning library

Over 25 of Emergi-Lite’s stylish Endurance emergency lighting fittings have been installed in the University of Lincoln’s £5 million library.

Opened in September 2004, the prestigious Great Central Warehouse Library houses more than 240,000 books plus state-of-the-art computer access to over 15,000 full text electronic journals and online databases. Resurrected from a derelict warehouse, the new library aims to marry contemporary design and high quality finishes with a welcoming atmosphere and user-friendly practicality.

Emergi-Lite’s Endurance range was chosen because it delivered a perfect package of practical benefits housed in a sleek, flexible design. Phil Lawson, Project Electrical Engineer for UL Architects, the library’s designers, explains, “The finishes look very good and fit in well with the other quality finishes we have installed in the Warehouse. We feel that the solution will also give us excellent value for money.”

Endurance’s cold cathode technology will also maximise energy efficiency, a key objective for the building. The cold cathode lamps give definite cost savings over standard tubes with a long life expectancy of over 40,000 hours continuous use. In addition, battery and lamp lifetimes are maximised to over 4 years, with minimal maintenance.

The Endurance range from Emergi-Lite includes wall, ceiling, recessed and suspended fixings (with rods or wires), as well as a unique horizontal version for installations where space is restricted. It was this flexibility that enabled installation in even the most awkward locations within the Library.
